Statistics
The undergraduate minor in statistics can significantly increase the student’s major background in terms of their ability to collect, summarize, and analyze data.
The additional background obtained in statistics by pursuing a minor will:
- enhance the student’s ability to do independent research and deal with projects that are quantitative in nature.
- significantly enhance a student’s marketability.
- the ability to set up and analyze data sets using some of the standard statistical software packages available today is a desirable attribute attractive to many employers.
Students majoring in any of the life, physical, or social sciences; math; business; economics; or engineering can benefit from such a minor.
NOTE: If you are interested in an M.S. or Ph.D., see http://www.stat.wsu.edu/Academics/academics.asp
Requirements
Students will need to have their minor courses approved by the Department of Statistics’ Chair before they begin. Only courses which do not have significant overlap in statistical content will be approved as counting toward the minor and at least three courses must have a STAT prefix associated with them.
The Statistics Minor consists of the completion of sixteen (16) credit hours of statistics courses, half of which must be upper division coursework. A minimum combined 3.0 GPA for all the minor coursework is required.
