2007-2008 Undergraduate Research and Creative Projects

Call for Proposals and General Information

Washington State University is committed to "Offering the Best Undergraduate Experience in a Research University" (strategic goal of the University). One aspect of this goal is to provide increased opportunities for undergraduates to be exposed to "hands-on" research and creative projects. Consistent with the priorities of the institution, the College plans to continue the competitive Undergraduate Research and Creative Projects program for the 2007-08 academic year. These projects will become part of the benchmarks for CAHNRS.

Despite budget constraints, we feel that this program is too valuable to eliminate. If faculty or departments have funds that might be available to supplement these projects (for one of their students) through blanket research or 17A accounts, please contact Academic Programs (335-9115) to discuss possibilities. This is a great opportunity for students.

Guidelines for Project Consideration

  1. This program is designed to enable students to conduct creative and/or research projects that will complement their normal classroom activities. This type of program is especially well suited for senior students. In working with a faculty advisor on a research/creative project, students will gain experience that will open doors for them in graduate school. Senior students are strongly encouraged to participate.
  2. Students must be majors in the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences and have a CAHNRS faculty advisor for the project. The faculty advisor is expected to be involved in planning and supervision.
  3. Limited funding is available for the project, ranging from $100 with a maximum of $1,000. The funds are to be used for supplies and not for student time slip or salary.
  4. Students are encouraged to enroll under 499 Special Problem credit with the number of credits determined by the student and their faculty advisor. If the student is enrolled with maximum credit load, but still would like credit for 499, please see Adademic Programs.
  5. Students receiving an award will be expected to complete the project and to develop a poster display for presentation at the CAHNRS Awards Banquet April 12, 2008.
  6. Previous recipients are ineligible.

Two copies of the proposal are requeted and should be no more than three pages in length (including the budget) and be presented in the following format:
