The award for Outstanding Junior for Agricultural Sciences is to recognize the outstanding junior from the agricultural or natural resource science programs in the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences. The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding scholastic accomplishments, leadership, and professional achievements while pursuing a career in agricultural and natural resource sciences as a WSU undergraduate.

Award Eligibility
The candidate must be a junior and a certified major in the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences by January 2010.
Nomination by department chair, faculty or staff.
Qualifying majors include those in: Agriculture, Agricultural Communications, Agribusiness, Agribusiness Economics and Management, Agricultural Business and Technology Systems, Agricultural Economics and Management, Agricultural Technology and Management, Agricultural Education, Animal Sciences, Crop Science, Environmental and Resource Economics and Management, Entomology, Food Science, Forestry, Horticulture, Integrated Pest Management, Landscape Architecture, Natural Resource Sciences, Organic Agriculture Systems, Pest Management Systems, Plant and Soil Systems, Soil Science, Wildlife Ecology
A one-page electronic letter from an appropriate nominator is requested that justifies the merit of the student nominee, and lists worthy accomplishments related to the particular award. Descriptions of each award can be found at: http://academic.cahnrs.wsu.edu/awards.htm.
We encourage each department to nominate deserving students enrolled in their majors. After receiving the nomination letter, a representative from Academic Programs will notify the student about their nomination. Each student will be asked to inform Academic Programs and their department chair as to whether they accept the nomination and are willing to submit a packet. -
Nomination Packet Guidelines
An electronic packet will be submitted to Sean McIlraith (smcilraith@wsu.edu) in the CAHNRS Academic Programs via email. The packet must be in electronic form so the selection committee can view the material on the Academic Progams SharePoint site. Submit a seperate document for each of the following numbers. Make sure you include the numbered title (in bold) in the file name.

Nomination Cover Form
Complete nomination form including press release and photo will be posted on the CAHNRS Academic Programs Awards site. This paragraph should not exceed 150 words. Please submit an electronic copy of the narrative to Sean McIlraith, smcilraith@wsu.edu, with the nominee's name and award in the subject line.Pictures are requested so they can be posted on the CAHNRS Academic Programs Awards site. Academic Programs will also accept a high quality digital picture. Submit the picture electronically to Sean McIlraith, smcilraith@wsu.edu, with the nominee's name and award in the subject line.
Candidate Materials
Write a comprehensive one-page written description addressing the following: Why did you choose your particular major, what excites you about your major field of study, and describe your career goals and aspirations.Provide a copy of your unofficial transcripts.

Do not include high school honors/activities.
- Letters of recommendation (no more than three) One letter will be from the department chair or academic advisor; the other two (2) can be from faculty, staff, or current/past employers. If the chair or director nominated the student, the nomination letter can fulfill the letter of recommendation requirement. Letters will be limited to one (1) page each.

Selection Process
Selection committees review the award nominations and make their recommendations to the Associate Dean, Academic Programs.
Award Announcement
All nominees will be acknowledged and the winner will be announced at the CAHNRS Awards Banquet. The recipient will receive a plaque and a $1,000 monetary award from Capital Press.
